Princess cut diamonds looks like an inverted pyramid with a square or rectangular base and beveled edges. Due to its design, the Princess Cut requires more of the carat weight to be directed towards the base of the stone to maximize brilliance, which means a Princess Cut stone will appear smaller than a Round Brilliant of the same carat weight. These diamonds must have a length-to-width ratio between 1.00 and 1.05 in order to maintain a perfect square shape aspect ratio. The two other options that are most similar to a princess cut diamond are a radiant cut diamond and a cushion cut diamond.
